Eden Village is a program dedicated to providing housing for the chronically homeless, a demographic that requires assistance to get off the streets. Under the management of La Mesa Ministries, which is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization based in Gilbert, Arizona, Eden Village provides low-cost housing to this population through tiny home pocket communities. Each home houses a single resident and is designed and built with the needs of the resident in mind. The tiny homes are permanent housing for the residents, allowing simple modifications to be made as the resident ages in their home. The goal of Eden Village is to provide a long-term solution to homelessness by continuing to build tiny-home communities until no one sleeps outside. This model can be easily adopted and implemented in cities across the nation.
In working with Arizona’s homeless population every day we know that having a safe place to sleep will make all of the difference. Overnight shelters are appreciated, but we can do better. The La Mesa Ministries Board of Directors approved a licensing agreement with The Gathering Tree out of Springfield Missouri to build an Eden Village in the east valley of Phoenix, Arizona. Eden Village is a tiny home community where the chronically homeless live in a permanent supportive housing environment where relationships and community is the main ingredient.

Each Eden Village location includes tiny homes, a community center, community garden, memorial garden, and Eden Village store. Eden Village tiny homes are 398 square feet with a bedroom, bathroom, and combined kitchen/living space. The homes are designed, decorated, and modified to fit each individual resident. The homes are adaptable to meet accessibility requirements to allow for the possibility of the residents to age in their home. The community center is complete with offices, a community kitchen, gathering space with couches and chairs, and a laundry center. The community garden is a sustainable source of fresh food providing both fruits and vegetables tended by residents and volunteers. The memorial garden is a quiet, peaceful place to honor the residents who have passed on. The Eden Village store distributes donated goods to residents for helping around the neighborhood, maintaining the grounds, and participating in community activities.
As many know our homeless population is continuing to grow taking up hundreds of thousands of dollars and time from our city and county resources, let alone the visuals of visitors and residents seeing our community allowing the suffering of our own. It is our job to fix it and it will benefit us both spiritually and financially.
This community will have between 24 and 30 new homes totally furnished and decorated all having one bedroom, one bath and a kitchen living room. Eden village amenities will include a 4000 plus square foot community center where the residents can both work and interact with other residents, guests and volunteers, a community garden, gathering areas, a general store, gated and secured perimeter fencing, security cameras and a columbarium to remember those who have passed.
The supportive services will include but not limited to mental health providers, case managers, medical care, and life skill trainers. Community involvement will be an integral part of the operations allowing both the residents and the surrounding community to be successful. Our estimate at this time is that rent will be $350 to $400 per month including utilities. Help us make this a reality by joining our team or by donating today.
