We urge local families, corporations, hospitals, government, faith-based organizations, and other non-profits within the San Marcos community to collaborate with us to make this unique solution a reality for our homeless friends.
We have found that the main cause of homelessness is a total loss of support systems combined with the lack of affordable housing. Our research into homelessness in San Marcos has led us to discover many impacts of this human tragedy throughout our community. On top of the social stigmas creating a barrier between those with homes and those without, we see that our public and environmental health and safety are at risk, our property values decrease, and most notably are the high costs to taxpayers for overused Public Services such as shelters, emergency rooms, and jails.
We believe that housing is a form of health care. Therefore, by providing safe, affordable housing, along with a strong support system for our homeless neighbors, we can create a positive ripple effect that benefits the entire city of San Marcos, Texas.
Eden Village of San Marcos founders, Sheila and Andrew Morgan, formed a non-profit organization, Eden Village of San Marcos, making it the first Eden Village within the great state of Texas. The first Eden Village was established in Springfield, Missouri and has helped chronically homeless neighbors get off the street, out of the brutal elements and into safe, affordable homes with incredible communal support systems to help them rebuild and maintain their lives. Due to its success, the inspiration to create a long-term solution to chronic homelessness has spread across the nation resulting in over a dozen other cities developing communities using the Eden Village model. We will be no different and are planning to surpass expectations. Please join us by volunteering today.
