Harrisburg’s Need to Help Our Homeless

The beginning of Eden Village of Harrisburg dates back several years. In 2019, three families formed a small group of like-minded people who were looking to put their faith into action. It was not enough for them to simply go to church and be good people. They wanted to really live out what they believe it means to follow Jesus. At first, they really didn’t know what it would look like to be part of a group like this, but they decided to try to be intentional about serving one another’s needs and looking for opportunities to serve together in the community. One of the things that the families have in common is real estate. Each family is involved in real estate in one way or another, so the group decided that they would focus on finding a strategy to serve the community through meeting housing related needs. No other group has greater housing needs than the 400 or so individuals that make up the homeless population in the city of Harrisburg. After spending some time serving the homeless by delivering food and clothing items both at shelters and visiting Tent City, they realized that there are many organizations that are doing great work in providing the practical daily needs of the homeless. Yet, the biggest need of all has yet to find a long-term solution – housing.

The Qavah Group learned about what Eden Village was doing in Missouri through an article in Realtor Magazine. Intrigued by the concept, they reached out to the founders to learn more. Step by step, they continued to close in on developing an Eden Village of Harrisburg and it is quickly becoming a reality.
